There are many foreign residents living in and around
Kameoka. We hope to provide opportunities for foreign
residents to interact with Kameoka's citizens. We believe
participating in activities together is a good way to
make friends. At this event we held a variety of games
from around Asia, such as "cup and ball", marbles,
top spinning, Chegi (a Korean game) etc. Gold medals were
awarded to the winners. We also provided Korean "chijimi",
and "namuru" at lunch time.
For our performance corner, we enjoyed watching jugglers,
Chango Korean drum performance, singing and dancing. We
also enjoyed dances from the Philippine and Inner Mongolia.
Bamboo instruments were also introduced and the audience
members were able to participate in the performance.
The weather was excellent that day and the landscape around
the center was so beautiful in the spring sunshine. Children
played freely on the lawn and everyone seemed to enjoy
the starting of spring.

Global Passport is a hands-on learning class for children
who want to learn about other cultures and customs of
foreign countries. They are able to learn about a certain
culture through the foreign guest speakers. The children
joined this class in the fall of 2001 and each month went
on a imaginary trip to foreign countries. Their commencement
was held this past February. Before the commencement,
they painted t-shirts with artist Tatenao Fujiki. The
t-shirts designed by the children were so beautiful and
glimmering.
At the commencement, everyone was given a certificate
and was asked their impression of Global Passport. They
were able to make friends from other countries and different
schools within Kameoka. It seems they were able to make
many good memories.

Korea, Hungary, Italy and Croatia. Then the Bamboo Orchestra

Taking bits of cut glass and enframing them into some
shape may sound like a tedious and nerve wracking task,
however it is actually a lot of fun and pleasing to see
the end result. We only have the stain glass making class
a few times a year, but it has gained a lot of popularity
with male participants. The teacher, Mr. Kiyomizu, is
a very down to earth person who caters to the creativity
of the students. |
